Cynthia Carver is a Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Oakland University, where she helped to lead the redesign of OU’s initial teacher certification programs. The resulting programs embrace a practice-based approach to university-based teacher preparation that features supervised and sustained field experiences within an equity and justice-centered curriculum. Dr. Carver’s current research examines the affordances and constraints of these new models. Additionally, she continues to study the development of teacher leaders and the practice of teacher leadership, as well as the role of teacher preparation in supporting teachers and students’ social-emotional learning.
