For Educators and Administrators

Adults in any learning environment (from early childhood to K-12 to post-secondary) influence the tone around and degree of SEL implementation in their setting. MiSELA is committed to ensuring every adult has what they need to enhance their own SEL skills as they model them for those young people with whom they work. Here are some resources to help reflect and better implement SEL in your respective learning environments. There are resources to help all educators develop their own knowledge, skill-set and commitment to SEL. Here are a few:

  • SEL Course

    This introductory course provides an insight into social-emotional learning (SEL) and a pathway to the initial steps of integrating SEL into your school or district. You will hone key components as defined by MDE: the five core social and emotional competencies; the research underpinning SEL; and comprehensive benefits and positive outcomes of SEL for staff, students, families, and other stakeholders. This course is part of the Social and Emotional Learning series.

  • Adult Social Emotional Learning

    To support districts in developing adult SEL competencies, MDE—with support from the Region 8 Comprehensive Center—developed a professional learning series to facilitate development of each of the five social emotional learning competencies.

  • MiRegistry

    The Michigan Registry supports and validates professional growth of child care and Other Early Childhood and Out of School Time professionals by serving as a one-stop-shop to track employment, education and training history; plan professional development with access to easy-to-read individual training summaries

  • Michigan Virtual Courses

    There are nine courses to support educators learning around SEL. Each course is free and offers SCECHs (between 2-8 depending on the course). Courses cover topics like Schoolwide Implementation, SEL and Trauma, Adult SEL and Self-care, SEL and MTSS, SEL and Equity, SEL and Assessment.

  • CASEL Resources

    The Collaborative for Academic Social Emotional Learning (CASEL) hosts numerous research resources to support SEL implementation.

  • MDE SEL

    For more information on efforts happening in Michigan through the Department of Education, visit the MDE SEL website.

  • CASEL Information on Evidenced-based Curriculum

    CASEL also provides information on evidenced-based curriculum for students k-12 as well as infographics, reports, articles, and resources on implementation.

    The Michigan 0-8 Social and Emotional Toolkit provides materials for communities throughout the state to use in promoting the positive social and emotional health of all their children.
