Valencia Cade, Ed.S is a Special Education Supervisor for Ferndale Public Schools. Previously she served as an Instructional Consultant on a county-wide Academic and Behavior Team for Washtenaw Intermediate School District. Valencia also held the role of Teacher Consultant (TC) at an alternative High School for students who reside in Washtenaw County and as a TC for students with an Emotional Impairment in Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). Valencia had the privilege of teaching both general education and special education at the elementary, middle and high school level during her almost 14 years in DPSCD. Valencia holds an Ed.S in Administration and Supervision. She also holds an Ed.S in Special Education with an endorsement in Emotional Impairment, a Master of Arts in Curriculum Instruction, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Valencia has been trained in Restorative Justice and Restorative Practice. She has also been trained in Calm Classrooms which is a mindfulness program for schools and she was heavily involved in the training and implementation of Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions through Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative. Valencia has been an active member of the MDE Children's Mental Health and Social-Emotional Learning initiative for about 5 years now. Valencia is most passionate about issues of social justice and equity and she has attended numerous training sessions around those issues. She describes herself as an advocate and activist for equity and she uses her platform to educate others on these important issues. Valencia is a proud Veteran of the United States Army and a mom to one inquisitive son.
